Maersk takes Aarhus port to court

A.P. Møller Maersk has requested the district court in Aarhus to issue a temporary injunction against Aarhus Port, reports Din Avis Aarhus and Aarhus Stiftstidende. Maersk, through its port operator APM Terminals, exclusively manages container operations at the port. The company objects to Aarhus Port’s plans to introduce a second operator. Maersk had previously warned that if another operator is introduced, they may retract a promised investment of over two billion Danish kroner to optimize and modernize the port’s container handling. The conflict arises from a disagreement regarding the content of a 2020 agreement between Aarhus Port and APM Terminals. The pause in a planned 43-hectare expansion of the port by Aarhus City Council, which is to be reconsidered after next year’s municipal elections, followed a ruling by the Planning Complaints Board stating the project did not meet environmental assessment requirements.
