Men dominate Danish boards

In 2022, Danish boards had nearly four times as many men as women. A report by Denmark’s Statistics indicates that there were 34,248 female board members, slightly up from 33,800 the previous year. Notably, 37 board members’ gender remained undisclosed. An analysis by the Confederation of Danish Industry (Dansk Industri) projects the trend continues into 2024, with women expected to hold 18.6% of board positions in companies with at least 50 employees, a marginal increase of 0.9 percentage points. Kinga Szabo Christensen, advisory director at Dansk Industri, emphasizes the problem of lacking diversity, pointing to research that diverse groups uncover better and more innovative solutions. Almost half of the businesses with at least 50 employees still lack female board members elected at general meetings, showing a decline from the previous year. Specifically, for companies with at least 50 full-time equivalents, there were 12,793 male board members compared to 2,835 female members in 2022.
