Minister mulls extra oversight on police casework
Denmark’s Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard has summoned the National Police Chief and the Director of Public Prosecutions to discuss allegations made by anonymous officers to the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) that the police deliberately neglect to investigate real cases, leading to their dismissal. Hummelgaard, taking the accusations seriously, suggests the potential need for additional oversight on case dismissals. He also seeks an assessment from the police on the truth of the allegations. Eight anonymous officers report being instructed to close cases without collecting evidence or conducting standard investigative steps. Parties to the police agreement will attend the upcoming meeting, and several parties have called Hummelgaard to a consultation following DR’s revelations.
