Minister to aid threatened Jazz Club

Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt plans to rescue Copenhagen’s Jazzhus Montmartre, allocating one million kroner for the endangered club. He has requested parliamentary support to repurpose these funds, which were originally designated for Gl. Holtegaard but declined due to their inadequate impact on its financial challenges. Although not a long-term solution, Engel-Schmidt hopes this will allow the jazz club to establish a stable financial structure. The club, renowned since 1959 for featuring jazz legends, faced hardship after being denied State Art Fund support, leading to staff lay-offs and canceled concerts. With the potential for continued annual support from Copenhagen Municipality, the club’s chairman believes they can secure a more permanent solution. Engel-Schmidt feels compelled to intervene, citing the venue’s cultural significance and historical importance.
