Slight Decrease in Violence Victims Last Year
In Denmark, the number of violence victims slightly declined last year after reaching a record high in 2022 according to Denmark’s Statistics’ annual crime report. The count went from 32,114 victims of violent crimes in 2022 to 30,915 in 2023. Despite the drop, this is still the second-highest number on record. Victims of violent crimes represented 44% of all crime victims last year, with property crime victims accounting for 38%. Previously, property crimes had more victims than violent crimes until 2020, a trend that has seemingly reversed. There’s a significant regional difference in crime patterns; for instance, in the Capital Region, property crimes make up 51 percent, whereas violent crimes are more prevalent in the other four regions. Overall, 53% of reported crime victims are women, 43% men, and 4% were of unspecified gender, with women constituting 90% of sexual crime victims.
