Greenland open to increased US cooperation

Greenland’s government leader, Múte B. Egede, announced on Monday in Nuuk that Greenland is prepared to enhance its collaboration with the USA, emphasizing the opportunities in mining. The potential of Greenland’s mineral resources has not yet been fully tapped, which can change with expanded mining operations, Egede said. Recent gestures from Donald Trump, intending to buy Greenland in 2019 and hinting at military coercion, have caused concerns. However, comments by incoming Vice President J.D. Vance have mitigated fears by rejecting military intervention. Egede recognizes Greenland’s strategic Arctic location and acknowledges both the tensions and the opportunities for broader cooperation with superpowers like the USA, Russia, and China.
