Newcomers enter EU Parliament on first try

Danmarksdemokraterne and the Moderates, both contesting their first EU election, have won one seat each in the European Parliament. Final results will determine who represents both parties. Danmarksdemokraterne received 7.4% of the votes, while the Moderates obtained 5.9%. Kristoffer Storm of Danmarksdemokraterne, a municipal council member in Aalborg, and businesswoman Stine Bosse for the Moderates are anticipated to take the seats in Brussels. The Moderates initially feared the loss of representation, but both TV projections later confirmed one seat. Bergur Løkke Rasmussen, second on the Moderates’ list and current MEP, risks losing his seat. Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the party leader, took the outcome as a warning to reform the government strategy. Meanwhile, the incumbent government parties, The Social Democratic Party and Venstre, faced worse elections than in 2019.
