Novo Nordisk drove a fifth of Denmark’s job growth in 2023

In 2023, the majority of Denmark’s job growth occurred in large urban municipalities or those where Novo Nordisk operates, as revealed by an analysis from Dansk Erhverv based on statistics from Danmarks Statistik. This analysis shows 81 percent of employment growth was concentrated in ten municipalities, with Novo Nordisk being active in several. The pharmaceutical giant alone accounted for roughly 20 percent of the total job growth. Tore Stramer, the Chief Economist at Dansk Erhverv, notes present job growth is driven by a small number of areas and companies. Specifically, in Gladsaxe, home to Novo Nordisk’s headquarters, employment rose by 3,900 or 8.2 percent. In Kalundborg, where the company has production facilities, there was an increase of 1,000 jobs, marking a 5 percent growth. In total, Denmark saw employment increase by 31,000 in 2023.
