Final mink fur auction surpasses 1 billion DKK

Copenhagen Fur held its last trade day on Thursday, with the final hammer sealing the sale of the last mink furs, totaling over one billion Danish kroner. The auction, which took place from June 1 to June 6, saw all 3.7 million mink skins from 2020 sold. Jesper Lauge Christensen, CEO of Copenhagen Fur, shared mixed feelings, acknowledging the closure they’d anticipated for three years since the government’s decision to cull all minks due to a mutated strain of COVID-19 that raised concerns about vaccine efficacy. The 1930-founded cooperative has yet to finalize its compensation claim with the state, appealing the valuation of 1.55 billion DKK against their demand of 3.9 billion DKK.
