PM Frederiksen fears collapse of green deal

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed concern that the political negotiations on the green tripartite agreement might fail. During a debate in the Folketing, she emphasized the urgency for a political agreement to complement the tripartite deal to protect nature. Frederiksen warned that without an agreement before summer, nature would be the biggest loser as there would be no chance for a green tripartite agreement in the future. The agreement, established in June, aims to provide a long-term basis for restructuring Denmark’s land use and agricultural production but has not yet been adopted by the Folketing. It was made between the government and organizations like Danish Agriculture and Food Council and The Danish Society for Nature Conservation. Key issues hindering the negotiations include disagreements over nitrogen emissions reduction levels, with opposition parties accusing the government of allowing agriculture to reduce emissions too little to safeguard water environments.
