Danish film ‘Girl with the Needle’ nominated for Golden Globe
‘Pigen med nålen’, a Danish film, has received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Non-English Language Film. The story, set in post-WWI Copenhagen, follows Karoline (played by Vic Carmen Sonne), a young factory worker facing survival challenges, who aligns with Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm), the operator of a covert adoption agency. The film is based on the true account of Denmark’s most notorious serial killer, Dagmar Overbye, who was convicted for the murder of nine infants. The film, a joint project among Denmark, Poland, and Sweden, is contending with ‘Emilia Pérez’ from France and ‘I’m Still Here’ from Brazil. Additionally, Danes are recognized in other categories, with Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong nominated for their roles in ‘The Apprentice’, a film about Roy Cohn mentoring a young Donald Trump. The Golden Globe Awards gala will take place on January 6.
