Decline in Danish Weddings: A 4% Drop in 2023

In 2023, fewer couples tied the knot in Denmark compared to the previous year, with 31,582 marriages, a decline of 4% from 33,059 in 2022. The surge in 2022 was partly due to delayed weddings from the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, 2023 still saw 5% more marriages than the average of the past decade. However, this number has not reached the annual average of roughly 36,000 occurring in the 1990s and 2000s. In contrast to weddings, divorces slightly increased in 2023, with 12,862 divorces compared to 12,320 the year before. Yet, overall divorce numbers have plateaued in the last three years, with a current rate of 17% fewer divorces than the ten-year average.
