U.S. embassy in Israel issues staff alert

The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem has issued a travel advisory for its employees, advising against travel outside designated areas until further notice. Employees and their families are discouraged from traveling beyond Tel Aviv, the surrounding area, Jerusalem, and the Beersheba regions. While transit through other areas to designated cities is permitted, caution and awareness of personal security are emphasized due to security-related incidents occurring without warning. The advisory coincides with concerns of a possible Iranian attack against Israel, following the death of two Iranian generals in Damascus earlier in April, an incident Iran blames on Israel but Israel has not claimed responsibility for. In 2017, the U.S. moved its embassy to Jerusalem under President Donald Trump, a move not recognized by the UN General Assembly, with most countries, including Denmark, opting to have their embassies in Tel Aviv instead.
