Nearly all cancer patients treated on time

According to a report for the third quarter released by the Ministry of the Interior and Health, 99.93% of cancer care pathways adhered to maximum waiting time rules out of nearly 60,000 cases. Health Minister Sophie Løhde commented that it is critical for patients to trust in prompt evaluation and treatment, highlighting that most cancer patients start treatment within the 14 days required by law after diagnosis. Despite more than 5% of cases exceeding deadlines, this was not against regulations, as some patients preferred to wait a few more days to be treated in their region. The timeframe set by rules is up to 14 days for both starting evaluation after a GP referral and for initiating treatment post patient consent. A new monitoring model was implemented last year after a cancer care delay issue at Aarhus University Hospital in Region Midtjylland, which led to firings and resignations.
