Denmark joins NATO aerial refueling collaboration
Denmark has joined NATO’s Multinational Multi Role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMF) collaboration on air refueling and transport capacity, alongside Sweden. The MMF, including Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Norway, now incorporates Denmark, acquiring two additional Airbus A330 aircraft, stationed in Denmark, with personnel. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen emphasizes the significance of air refueling for enhancing national defense and enabling Arctic and North Atlantic operations. Denmark’s overall expenditure for this initiative is expected to total approximately 7.4 billion DKK from 2025-2037. MMF currently operates ten Airbus A330 aircraft, with Denmark’s participation significantly expanding NATO’s European air refueling capability through immediate flight hours access and a new “Forward Operating Base” in Denmark.
