Quran burning incidents drop after Danish law
The incidence of public Quran burnings in Denmark has significantly reduced after the enactment of a law in December, as reported by Kristeligt Dagblad based on police data. Prior to the law, 554 protests involving the burning of books and flags were reported between July 21 and December 12, 2023. Since the new law’s effect on December 14, there have been just five such protests. Additionally, three individuals have been charged, one of whom, Lars Theilade, has said he does not plan to violate the law soon. The law, sparked by prior Quran burnings that angered Muslim countries, stirred heated debate in Denmark, with the opposition criticizing it as a concession to Middle Eastern countries discontent.
