Danish soldiers’ Iraq mission status unclear

The Danish Defence Ministry is determining the future roles of two soldiers in a US-led mission in Iraq after ‘Operation Inherent Resolve’ was announced to end following a US-Iraq agreement on September 27. While transition details are being clarified, Denmark retains two soldiers within the coalition in Iraq. Denmark’s ongoing commitment to Iraq includes participation via the Peace and Stabilization Fund and NATO’s mission, aiming to conclude the operation by September 2025. Since its inception in 2014 to combat Islamic State, Denmark has contributed fighter jets, transport aircraft, radar, and training for Iraqi security forces. Currently, Denmark’s involvement is limited to a staff contribution in the coalition.
