Council member resigns over Facebook post
Simon El-Zeinab, a member of the National Integration Council appointed by the Minister for Immigration and Integration Kaare Dybvad Bek, has resigned following a Facebook post where he expressed condolences for the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, reports Radio4.
El-Zeinab referred to Haniyeh as ‘a great leader’ and expressed his sorrow publicly. Minister Bek condemned the statements, stating it’s unacceptable for a council member, tasked with national integration duties, to praise the leader of a terrorist organization. The controversial post was widely shared but is no longer accessible. El-Zeinab has previously worked in diplomacy for the Palestinian government and is a department head in Aarhus Municipality. The Integration Council, which advises on refugee, immigrant, and integration matters, will seek a replacement member promptly.
