Danish frigate arrives for mission in Red Sea

The Danish frigate ‘Iver Huitfeldt’ will participate in a coalition against the Houthis in the Red Sea as they target international shipping with missiles. The Defense Ministry notes serious concerns over the persistent attacks. As part of the operation, the frigate will protect cargo ships, potentially using weapons in self-defense and to shield civilian vessels. Denmark is also contributing an officer to the US-led offensive coalition bombing Houthi targets. The Danish Parliament approved the vessel’s deployment against the Houthis, who have been assaulting maritime traffic with missiles and drones, as a gesture of support for Israel. The conflict has displaced four million and contributed to soaring costs for rerouted shipping, including Maersk vessels. Iran is supplying arms to the Houthis who vow to block international waters as long as Israel attacks Hamas in Gaza.
