Institute warns of dangerous decade of military tensions

The International Institute for Strategic Studies warns of a dangerous decade ahead with conflicts between Hamas and Israel, Russia’s Ukraine invasion, and tensions in Indo-Pacific and Africa. Iran’s influence grows as it supplies missiles and drones to conflict zones. The uncertainty drives the US and Europe to boost missile production after long underinvestment. Global military spending has reached a record $2.2 trillion, influenced by NATO’s reaction to Russia. Denmark strengthens its NATO and regional defense ties, prioritizing the Baltic and Arctic regions and hosting allies, despite challenges like personnel shortages and reliance on defense imports. The European defense budget increased by four percent, and EU budgets by six percent, not solely due to NATO. Denmark, striving to meet NATO’s defense spending goal, plans additional investment by 2030.
