Consumer Watchdogs target Temu for misleading tactics
The Danish Consumer Ombudsman, along with other European consumer authorities and the European Commission, accuses the Chinese webshop Temu of employing ‘several’ illegal methods that misleadingly influence consumers’ purchasing decisions. If Temu fails to respond to the authorities within a month, national consumer agencies may intervene, which can include imposing fines based on Temu’s annual revenue in the affected member states. The violations include the use of fake offers and pressure sales, false limitations on inventory, false deadlines, minimum purchase restrictions, and hidden contact information. Temu acknowledges the concerns raised by the authorities and commits to fully cooperate with the investigation, emphasizing their relative newness and ongoing learning to meet local requirements.
