Danish PM and Trump discuss key issues

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Donald Trump, winner of Tuesday’s U.S. presidential election, held a telephone conversation on Thursday, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. They discussed the war in Ukraine, Russian aggression, collaborations between Russia, Iran, and North Korea, and challenges from China. The call lasted approximately 12 minutes and occurred during Frederiksen’s participation in an EU summit in Budapest. Since Trump’s first term, Denmark has significantly increased defense spending to 2.4% of GDP, a response to U.S. expectations. Despite past tensions, such as Trump’s interest in purchasing Greenland and his canceled state visit to Denmark, Frederiksen confirms a positive current relationship with Trump, who has reportedly spoken with 70 world leaders since Wednesday.
