28 planes on standby for injured skiers

Falck has announced they have prepared 28 flights in the Alps to transport injured Danish skiers home. They expect to assist around 500 Danes hurt while skiing to return via flights this year. Last year, half were brought back by Falck’s ‘ski express’ and the rest via commercial flights. Common injuries include knee sprains and lower leg damage, accounting for 70 percent of cases, while 30 percent involve arms, shoulders, and ribs. Helmet use has reduced head injuries. Peak times are anticipated during weeks 6 to 8, with flights mainly from Salzburg and Innsbruck, Austria. The first rescue flight departs January 16, with subsequent flights on scheduled dates, adaptable to the number of patients and destinations. Planes can carry 8-9 passengers or 6 if stretchers are needed. Patients are returned to Aalborg or Roskilde.
