Region to scrutinize all psychiatry files in Randers case

Region Midtjylland has decided to review all patient records from wards C and D at the Regionspsykiatrien in Randers after previously halting the examination before completion. Concerns among patients and relatives prompted this change. Initially, out of over 1600 records, 555 were reviewed, revealing treatment errors in half of them, deemed below professional standards. Following this, an advisory letter was issued to all affected patients guiding them on how to file complaints and seek compensation. Health Minister Sophie Løhde intervened, leading to a meeting with the Danish Health Authority. The region also plans to issue guidance letters during the review, expected to continue through the rest of 2025. The actions are being undertaken following a whistleblower’s revelations about treatment errors at the facility, which led to the firing of an overlying psychiatrist and departure of senior staff. Patient compensation for one case indicated a young person’s suicide might have been preventable with proper treatment.
