US vetoes UN Gaza ceasefire resolution for third time
The United States has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza for the third time. US Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, stated the US cannot support a resolution that jeopardizes ongoing negotiations. Instead, the US is pushing for a conditional ceasefire tied to the release of hostages held by Hamas. The resolution drafted by the Security Council, which does not link a ceasefire with a hostage release agreement, was voted on Tuesday. It separately demands an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the unconditional release of all hostages.
