Mette F.: Denmark remains a strong US Ally

Following recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Greenland, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reaffirmed Denmark’s position as a strong American ally, emphasizing the country’s longstanding alliance since World War II and the sacrifices of Danish soldiers alongside Americans. Frederiksen reiterated that Greenland is not for sale, echoing the sentiments of Greenland’s government leader Múte B. Egede expressed in December. She declined to elaborate on discussions with the U.S., but is focused on establishing close ties with the new American administration. Frederiksen also emphasized the importance of a united and strong Europe. Prior to his second presidential term, Trump indicated Greenland’s strategic importance to U.S. national security and had previously intimated interest in purchasing the island, leading to a cancelled state visit to Denmark after Frederiksen’s rejection.
