One in four pupils needs support in schools
About 23.4% of students in the 3rd, 6th, and 9th grades of Danish public schools require special support, particularly for task management, academic participation, and literacy skills. This data comes from a study by the Danish National Centre for Welfare Studies for Vibus, the knowledge unit for children with special needs within the Ministry of Children and Education. Teachers reported a need for more competencies and organizational frameworks to address the various support requirements of students, especially those displaying externalizing behavior and high absenteeism. The aim of the study is to illuminate how to meet student support needs in practice and inspire schools and special education services to incorporate the necessary support.
