Danish Crown urges drivers to remain silent
SPF drivers, a part of Danish Crown, are instructed to disclose only their name, personal identification number, and address to the police in animal welfare cases, according to an article by Information. The directive potentially hinders legal proceedings regarding animal welfare law violations, says Klaus Holten Kristensen, a prosecutor at the Funen Police. Danish Crown distanced itself from the instructions and stated an immediate review and update of the guidance materials for drivers is underway. SPF, a subsidiary of Danish Crown, employs about 160 drivers to transport pigs for slaughter or sale within Denmark and abroad. On their website, Danish Crown emphasizes animal welfare is a high priority. Founded in 1887, the company is one of the largest pork producers and exporters in Europe, annually slaughtering millions of pigs.
