Krøyer’s Børsen painting secretly moved to Skagen

The P.S. Krøyer painting ‘From Copenhagen Stock Exchange,’ saved from the April Børsen fire, arrived Tuesday morning at the Skagen Museum and will be displayed from Friday for a year. TV2 Nord reported that it was secretly transported in the early hours from Copenhagen. Museum director Lisette Vind Ebbesen expressed great honor in safeguarding this monumental piece. Conservators will assess the condition of the painting before its exhibition. During the Børsen fire on April 16, efforts by staff, police, and passers-by saved several historical paintings, including this notable work, deemed the most valuable in the Børsen. Painted in 1895, the large group portrait includes influential businessman C.F. Tietgen among others, portrayed in the Exchange Hall, all paying to be featured, costing nearly 20,000 kroner at the time.
