Norwegian wins literature prize

Norwegian author Niels Fredrik Dahl is awarded the Nordic Council’s Literature Prize for his novel ‘Walking Man.’ The work, released by Oktober Publishing in 2023, delves into a son’s quest to understand his father through historical family documents. It encompasses deep human themes with a blend of tenderness, darkness, and humor. The committee praises the novel as both comprehensive and subtle, illuminating how loneliness can be passed down through generations and the complexity of life’s narrative. Dahl has an established literary career, with accolades such as the Brage Prize and Ibsen Prize. Along with the honor, he receives 300,000 kroner and a statuette. Other Danish nominees were Theis Ørntoft and Helle Helle. The Literature Prize, recognizing works in Nordic languages since 1962, can celebrate various literary forms.
