Ozempic may prevent chronic kidney disease
A new study by Novo Nordisk reveals promising results in treating people with chronic kidney disease using the drug Ozempic. According to the study’s co-author, Peter Rossing, these findings are a step towards eradicating kidney disease. Known for regulating blood sugar, promoting weight loss, and improving cardiovascular health, Ozempic also shows a protective effect on kidney function. The study, presented at the European renal conference in Stockholm, was halted last October for ethical reasons due to the clarity of positive results. The research included 3,533 participants from 28 countries, all at risk of chronic kidney disease due to type 2 diabetes. It demonstrated a 24% reduction in the risk of death, serious cardiovascular disease, and kidney disease progression. Previous knowledge of the drug’s combined benefits for blood sugar, weight, and heart disease, along with these findings, provide hope for potentially eradicating kidney disease in a significant extent.
