Unemployment steady in May, slight decline noted

In May, unemployment in Denmark decreased by 300 people, totaling 86,300 full-time unemployed. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.9%, according to the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment (Star). This rate has been stable since December 2023 when it increased from 2.8%. Despite potential impacts from U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff announcements, there are no signs of downturn. Employment continues to rise, recently setting records, with 3,200 new employees in March, bringing the total to 3,050,200. Job growth is driven mainly by immigrants and older individuals retiring later. Despite recent uncertainties, the Danish job market remains robust. Currently, the U.S. is negotiating trade agreements with several countries, including the EU, with potential risks still being assessed.
