Denmark’s PM rejects military threat to Greenland

During her visit to NATO, Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen addressed recent statements by Donald Trump, refuting any military threat to Greenland or Denmark. Frederiksen emphasized the ongoing importance of the transatlantic alliance and highlighted the necessity of a robust European defense in the face of potential threats from Russia. Despite challenges in the relationship with the USA, she intends to maintain the alliance that has brought peace since World War II. Frederiksen did not provide specifics but indicated plans to significantly increase the Danish defense budget, moving it closer to five percent of GDP, aligning with Trump’s preference over the current two percent NATO target. Her comments concluded a busy tour rallying European support for Greenland and Denmark, garnering backing from leaders of Germany and France.
