Unemployment in Denmark remains unchanged in October

Unemployment figures in Denmark remained static during October, with both September and October showing 88,000 full-time unemployed individuals. This consistence keeps the unemployment rate at 2.9%. The figures, which include 12,300 people on welfare and 75,700 receiving unemployment benefits, did not increase as earlier projections by the Employment and Recruitment Agency (Star) anticipated – a forecast that has since corrected. While the static unemployment is a relief to some, like Kristian Skriver from Danish Business, there is an expectation of slight increases in unemployment in the coming months. This is attributed to a quieter period in the labor market with a slight drop in employment due to reduced demand for labor. Industrial representatives note mixed conditions, with some businesses still experiencing labor shortages and others impacted by decreased demand. However, according to Erik Bjørsted from The Danish Metalworkers’ Union, long-term unemployment remains low, with approximately 15,500 individuals classified as long-term unemployed, a number close to pre-financial crisis levels.
