Trump to sanction ICC for targeting US and Israel
President Donald Trump plans to impose sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) for allegedly targeting the United States and its allies, such as Israel, as stated by a White House spokesperson. The sanctions, revealed by Reuters and NBC News, will target individuals and their families who assist the ICC’s investigations of US citizens or allies, and may include financial and visa restrictions. Specific ICC staff members affected have not been disclosed. The US, under President Joe Biden at the time, condemned the ICC’s arrest warrants for Israeli leaders last November as ‘outrageous’, asserting that Israel and Hamas are incomparable and that the ICC lacks jurisdiction in these cases. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz promised a strong response to the ICC’s perceived anti-Semitic bias. The ICC, established in 1998 with 124 member countries, is not joined by the USA, China, India, Russia, or Israel.
