Today’s news / Union Urges Health Checks for Nordic Waste Staff
The employees at Nordic Waste did not wear protective equipment that would protect against harmful dust. It triggered injunctions from the Danish Working Environment Authority in December. On this basis, 3F Randers urges members who have previously worked at the site to get a medical check-up. (Archive photo). Photo: Bo Amstrup/Ritzau Scanpix

Union Urges Health Checks for Nordic Waste Staff

3F union in Randers advises former employees of Nordic Waste to seek medical check-ups for potential health issues from dust exposure. The workers dealt with microfillers, a byproduct of cement production, which can affect the eyes, respiratory system, and cause allergic reactions. The Danish Working Environment Authority issued an emergency order to Nordic Waste on December 16, mandating protective gear against the harmful dust. Despite the company’s bankruptcy, compensation for work-related injuries is still possible under the Work Injury Insurance Act if properly documented. As of December 19 last year, Randers Municipality took charge of containing the landslide caused by the jordskred, and on January 22, Nordic Waste was declared bankrupt. An investigation into the company’s management and responsibility is currently underway.
