Citizens can view and pay public debts online

Starting Tuesday, residents in Denmark can access a self-service solution to view and settle their public debts, announces the Danish Debt Collection Agency. Initially, the overview includes debts in the newer PSRM system, which gathers most personal debts such as legal taxes, alimony, and student loan debt. About 480,000 citizens have debts managed by this system. The service allows payments via credit card or MobilePay. Previously, residents had to contact the agency to know their public debts. Debts in the older DMI system, often related to businesses, still require direct contact with the agency. The expectation is to integrate DMI debt information into the overview by 2025. Gældsstyrelsen will continue to send debt summaries or reminders, and an annual notification to debtors. The agency, part of the tax system reorganization in 2018, is responsible for debt collection.
