Ørsted exits major green fuel project

Ørsted has definitively exited the Green Fuels for Denmark project, intended to produce green aviation fuel for Danish domestic flights. Robert Duncalf from Ørsted, responsible for the company’s European Power-to-X projects, stated that despite the project’s valuable vision, it no longer fits Ørsted’s focus on wind energy and green hydrogen technologies. Green Fuels for Denmark, founded in 2020, counted on participants like Mærsk, DSV, SAS, and Copenhagen Airport, and envisioned a new green domestic route launching next year. A major Power-to-X facility at Avedøre was planned, following a smaller demonstration site. Despite having received public funding assurances of around 600 million Danish kroner, Ørsted’s withdrawal comes after leaving the Flagship One project in Sweden and a planned hydrogen plant at Holstebro.
