Israel claims killing of Hamas military chief

According to the Israeli military, Mohammed Deif, the leader of Hamas’ military wing, was killed in a strike on July 13th, in the Khan Younis area. This announcement was made amid uncertainty about Deif’s fate following the July attack, as Hamas initially claimed he was safe. Hamas has not yet commented on this latest claim from Israel, which coincides with the mourning procession for the recently killed Hamas top leader Ismail Haniyeh, whose death Israel has not commented on. Deif was one of the most prominent figures in Hamas, known for surviving multiple assassination attempts and being instrumental in developing Gaza’s tunnel network. He was implicated in the planning and execution of a surprise attack on Israel on October 7th last year, which resulted in 1,200 deaths in southern Israel and 251 hostages taken to Gaza.
