Fertility treatment wait times drop nationally
Public fertility clinic wait times have significantly decreased, with the waiting period in the Region Zealand dropping from about 40 weeks last year to around 14 weeks currently. The Patient Association Fertility and Loss for Families welcomes this change, as it can reduce stress and worries for fertility patients. The decrease in waiting times follows increased political focus and financial grants worth millions. According to Interior and Health Minister Sophie Løhde, the economic boost has been instrumental in addressing prolonged wait times previously influenced by financial constraints. The Danish government has been considering how to counter the country’s declining birth rate amid rising fertility treatment cases, which hit nearly 40,000 initiations in 2021. Other notable improvements in wait times include Hvidovre Hospital decreasing from 26 to 17 weeks, and Rigshospitalet from 22 to 16 weeks, with the shortest wait times being six weeks in Horsens and Odense.
