Trump asks Xi to aid Ukraine war resolution
U.S. President Donald Trump has requested Chinese President Xi Jinping’s assistance in managing the Ukraine conflict during a late-night press conference. Trump stated that although Xi has significant power, he hasn’t contributed significantly to resolving the war. Trump mentioned possible impending sanctions against Russia if President Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate an end to the war but did not elaborate on the details. The U.S. has already imposed severe sanctions on Russia since its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine and has provided Ukraine with roughly $65 billion in support. Trump also commented on the EU’s role and his prior statements about instantly ending the conflict upon resuming the presidency, suggesting Putin is damaging Russia by not striking a deal.
