Ørsted to Explore Wind Farm in Australia
Danish energy company Ørsted has been granted a license to conduct preliminary investigations for a possible offshore wind farm off the coast of Victoria, Australia. Despite financial setbacks in US wind projects, Ørsted remains undeterred in seeking international business opportunities. The company sees potential in the area for a total capacity of 4.8 gigawatts. Ørsted is confident that Australia has the right conditions to create a thriving offshore wind market and is committed to working closely with the Australian and Victorian state governments and stakeholders to ensure the projects benefit all parties. Per Mejnert Kristensen, Ørsted’s Regional Director for Asia-Pacific, highlights the value of investing in the Australian market. The expected operational start of the wind farms is in the early 2030s.
