Agency launches probe into JP Chairman’s million pay

Denmark’s Business Authority is investigating the compensation paid to Jørgen Ejbøl, chairman of the Jyllands-Posten Foundation. Ejbøl received a 2.1 million kroner post-service payment at the age of 75, following a period of layoffs at the company which saw 37 positions cut, mostly editorial. Despite the payment intended for retirement, Ejbøl continued as chairman. He has since paid back the compensation. The Business Authority is seeking explanations for the payments and governance of the foundation. Lars Munch, new JP/Politikens Hus chairman, requested his salary be reduced to match his predecessor’s following concerns over the firm’s image. Previously, Munch’s annual salary was set at 2.5 million kroner, compared to the 950,000 kroner of the former chairman, amidst a critical situation after Peter Bartram’s departure.
