King launches new metro line in Copenhagen

On Saturday morning, King Frederik inaugurated five new metro stations in Copenhagen at Mozarts Plads. The event was celebrated with a flea market, food stalls, and live music including performances by eee gee and Peter Sommer. The extension means Metro Line M4 now connects Orientkaj in Nordhavn to Sydhavn and Valby, creating five extra stops and providing passengers with more transit options. The initiative, which cost nearly 10 billion Danish Kroner, is expected to see about eight million annual passengers by 2030, though initial numbers may be lower. With the expansion, Copenhagen’s metro network now comprises 44 stations and 43 kilometers of track, and is projected to handle over 135 million passengers by 2024.
