King Frederik lays wreath at atomic bomb victims memorial

King Frederik attended the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, where he laid a wreath with Mayor Kazumi Matsui at a memorial in Hiroshima. Later, he planned to visit a museum documenting the bombings’ consequences. The atomic bombs were dropped by American planes in August 1945, leading to significant loss of life. On Wednesday, King Frederik started his visit to Japan, focusing on sustainable food production, gastronomy, green energy, and life sciences. He attended the opening of Denmark Day at Expo 2025 in Osaka, delivering the opening speech and touring the Nordic pavilion. King Frederik is accompanied by ministers on this visit, which concludes with a dinner at the Imperial Palace. This visit echoes his previous visit in 1998 with then-Crown Prince Naruhito.
