Queen Margrethe Embarks on New Duties

Queen Margrethe conducted her first official duty in her post-abdication role, greeted by schoolchildren waving international flags. At the Prince Henrik School in Frederiksberg, she contributed to the opening of new buildings alongside the French ambassador to Denmark and Denmark’s education minister. The school has been relocated and renamed in honor of the late Prince Henrik, who served as its patron. A highlight of the ceremony was Queen Margrethe unveiling a sculpture of her husband by artist Hans Pauli Olsen. Despite relinquishing the throne to her son, she remains queen and can serve as regent. Her future role’s specifics remain undefined, posing a unique precedent in modern Danish history, with no previous monarch abdicating to guide her.
