Denmark donates DKK 100M to Egypt for migration
Denmark is donating 100 million DKK to support Egypt’s migration efforts due to its crucial role in the increasing migration flows. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen announced the aid following talks with the Egyptian government, emphasizing the need to manage the influx of refugees to prevent their eventual arrival in Europe. The aid adds to a 200 million euro EU donation and comes as part of Denmark’s increased involvement in regional migration programs until 2029. The funds will be used for capacity building in migration control and combating smuggling and trafficking, with international organizations overseeing the initiative. Rasmussen highlighted Egypt’s pressure from the partial blockade of the Suez Canal by the Houthi movement and challenges posed by the Gaza conflict and refugees from other African nations.
