Copenhagen stops Israeli settlement-linked investments

Copenhagen Municipality has decided to cease investments in companies connected to Israeli settlements, a move supported by a 9-2 vote in the finance committee. The decision prompts the divestment from firms including Airbnb, Expedia Group, and Booking Holdings, all listed by the UN for their links to Israeli settlements, which are considered illegal by the UN. The city will divest around 6.8 million Danish crowns. The action reflects Copenhagen’s dedication to ethical investing and human rights responsibilities, as stated by Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen. This stance is supported by Amnesty International, highlighting compliance with international law and encouraging global corporate responsibility. Copenhagen University followed suit, stopping investments in similar companies after student protests.
