Few customers affected by Nordnet breach

A security breach at the investment platform Nordnet earlier Tuesday reportedly affected only a few customers. Jonas Melander, the press officer for Nordnet Denmark, said that it was a small percentage of users who risked accessing someone else’s account or having their own exposed to others. The breach, caused by a software error, allowed some clients to access other users’ accounts for 20 minutes. However, not all customers who logged in during that period were exposed. Even though no unauthorized transactions or payouts from another’s account have been reported, the platform was shut down for several hours to prevent further issues. Nordnet communicated the technical fault to customers via email and now faces the challenge of rebuilding trust. As of October, Nordnet had reached 500,000 customers in Denmark. The Swedish Data Protection Authority will decide if any consequences will ensue as Nordnet is listed in Sweden.
