Danes dismiss doom and invest heavily

Danish investors shrugged off doomsday prophecies of geopolitical tensions and economic turmoil in January, purchasing investment certificates in Danish funds amounting to DKK 3.7 billion—the largest sum in 11 months—according to Finans Danmark. Despite January frequently being a big investment month, Birgitte Søgaard Holm from Finans Danmark attributes the trend partly to decreasing inflation and strong market returns in late 2023 and early 2024, which fuel investor optimism and eagerness to buy. While investment interest seems to be on the rise, it still hasn’t reached the levels seen during the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns, when approximately DKK 80 billion and DKK 70 billion were invested, respectively. Søgaard Holm notes that the January figures could indicate a move away from the extremes of the past four years toward something more average for the investment year of 2024.
